The West Virginia Behavioral Health Workforce Training Center (Training Center) is a statewide initiative funded by the West Virginia Department of Human Services, Bureau for Behavioral Health and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). It is based out of Marshall University and was established to improve behavioral health outcomes for West Virginians.

The training center works to ensure that the behavioral health workforce is trained in evidence-based and trauma-informed approaches that meet the needs of our state.  Our programs are designed to:

  • Increase Clinical Competence: Offering a range of courses to deepen expertise in mental health, substance use disorders, trauma-informed care, crisis intervention, and more, while also working to improve outcomes.
  • Enhance the Skills of Supervisors: Providing specialized training for those in leadership roles to support their teams and guide organizations toward success.
  • Deepen knowledge of Ethics: Focusing on maintaining high standards of professional ethics and helping workers navigate complex situations.
